CDMA

CDMA is an acronym for Code Division Multiple Access.  CDMA uses two concepts in the transmission of calls.  The first, (FDMA), or Frequency Division Multiple Access, divides a frequesny band into slots.  Each frequency slot is given to a caller.  This concept is akin to tuning into radio stations as each station is assigned a radio frequency.  Now, combining this with TDMA technology, CDMA allows users to spread calls over various time slots and various frequencies at the same time. This is accomplished using a technique know a Spread Spectrum, wherein each transmission chunk is given a key to decode the information received at the other end.  This technology surpasses the TDMA standard in terms of efficiency as the more calls can be spread over a smaller amount of bandwidth.  CDMA technology is a multiple access technique, using sequenced code to divide traffic channels within the same radio channels.
