When shopping for cell phones for seniors, one of the most important factors to consider is the hearing aid compatibility (HAC). Many phones cell to create interference with listening devices that can create feedback, hum or static or make it hard to hear in general. Each cell leading provider plan phone is required to provide hearing aids often comaptible phones are clearly marked as such. Most modern hearing aids come with two modes: an acoustic (microphone mode) and attachment of your (Inductive mode). Although acoustic coupling captures all the sounds, including ambient noise, the phone link is designed to receive only signals mail sent by a phone. Some listening devices automatically turn off the acoustic coupling and uses only a phone call when placed near a phone to keep comments. Meanwhile, some smaller equipment is used only acoustic coupling because they have built a link phone.
Because there are two ways of listening devices, phone makers are required to disclose their qualifications for both. These known as M-rated (For acoustic coupling, or mode of microphone) and T-classification (for mating call).
The rating scale for two ranges 1-4, with 1 being the worst and 4 being the best. The scores are broken down as follows:
- M1 or T1 – Poor
- M2 and T2 – Fair
- M3 or T3 – Good
- M4 or T4 – Excellent
M and T scores are not necessarily correlated. For example, a phone can have an evaluation and rating classification M2 M3 or T3 and T4 classification.
Ideally, you want to choose a phone with an M-rated M3 or M4 and T-classification of T3 or T4.
Hearing aid skills
The headphones also have different levels of frequency radio (RF) resistance to interference. This is to keep your audience in a non-intentional radio signal capture, but can also affect their compatibility with cell phones.
Because of this, is an important factor in M-evaluation hearing to consider the T cell phones for people older. Not all manufacturers list of these assessments, but you can ask your audiologist to find that information for you.

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) mandates
The FCC has enacted laws that define the U.S. audience compatibility aid (HAC) and HAC define rules for how many devices each operator must offer the entire country. To be considered HAC, a phone must have a grade M3 and T3 or higher. Beyond this, retailers should stop testing apparatus for HAC before buying. Cell phone companies also are required to include details of HAC on their websites.
Other factors
While M-rated and T-classification are good indicators for determining HAC, other factors that affect how a cell phone can work with a headset. For example, CDMA mobile phones companies – like Verizon Wireless and / Sprint Nextel – tend to work better with hearing aids GSM mobile phones, such as those provided by AT & T and T-Mobile. In addition, flip phones and clamshell designs tend to give less interference other styles of mobile phones. The FCC also says moving the phone slightly behind the ear and not directly in the ear may actually provide a better signal.
